Tamarind Garden Resort is a haven for bird watching enthusiasts. With a lush 12-acre garden and natural surroundings, we offer a home to a wide variety of bird species, including the Greater Coucal, Spotted Dove, Brown-Headed Barbet, White-Breasted Water Hen, Red-Backed Woodpecker, Long-Billed Sunbird, Common Mynah, Purple-Rumped Sunbird, Indian Scops-Owl, and White-Bellied Drongo. Our bird watching trail allows you to experience the beauty of these amazing birds in their natural habitat.

We also welcome a variety of seasonal migrant birds throughout the year, adding to the diversity of birdlife that can be seen on our property. Come and witness the wonder of our feathered friends up close at Tamarind Garden Resort.

Brown-Headed Barbet

The Brown-Headed Barbet is a small bird species native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. As the name suggests, it has a brown head with a yellow eye-ring and a short, stout beak. The body is mainly green with a red patch on the vent.

These birds are arboreal and can be found in forests, gardens, and parks. They are known for their distinctive calls which are often a series of sharp, metallic notes. Brown-Headed Barbets feed on fruits, insects, and occasionally small vertebrates.

Greater Coucal​

The Greater Coucal, also known as the Crow Pheasant, is a large bird species found in South and Southeast Asia. It has a glossy black plumage, a thick curved bill, and a long tail that is often held upright. The eyes are crimson red and the legs are long and strong.

These birds are typically found in dense forests, grasslands, and wetlands, and are known for their loud, deep calls that sound like a series of “booming” notes. Greater Coucals feed on a variety of insects, small animals, and fruits. They are also known to occasionally prey on smaller birds and their eggs.

White-Breasted Water Hen & Chicks

The White-Breasted Water Hen is a medium-sized bird species found in wetlands and marshes across South and Southeast Asia. As the name suggests, it has a white breast and belly, while the rest of the body is a deep blue-grey color. The bill and legs are bright red, and there is a distinctive red patch around the eye.

During the breeding season, the White-Breasted Water Hen constructs a nest out of reeds and grasses in a dense thicket or on the ground near water. The female lays up to six eggs, which are incubated by both parents for around 20 days.

Spotted Dove

The Spotted Dove is a small to medium-sized bird species found across Asia and parts of Africa. It has a plump body with a distinctive spotted pattern on its wings and back, which is where it gets its name from. The head and breast are a pale greyish-brown color, and the neck has a metallic green and purple sheen.

Red-Backed Woodpecker

The Red-Backed Woodpecker is a medium-sized bird species found in forests across much of Europe and Asia. It has a distinctive red cap on its head and a bright red patch on its lower back, while the rest of the body is mainly black and white. The bill is long, straight, and pointed, and the feet have two toes pointing forward and two pointing backward.

Long-Billed Sunbird​

The Long-Billed Sunbird is a small, brightly colored bird species found in forests and gardens across South and Southeast Asia. The female has a distinctive curved bill that is longer than its body, which it uses to probe deep into flowers to extract nectar and insects.

Common Mynah​

The Common Mynah, also known as Indian Mynah, is a medium-sized bird species found in urban and rural areas across South and Southeast Asia. It has a distinctive black head, neck, and breast, with a yellow patch of bare skin behind the eyes. The body is brown with white wing patches and a long tail, which is often held upright.

Purple-Rumped Sunbird

The Purple-Rumped Sunbird is a small, brightly colored bird species found in gardens and forests across South and Southeast Asia. The female has a distinctive curved bill, which it uses to probe flowers to extract nectar and insects.

Indian Scops Owl

The Indian Scops-Owl is a small, nocturnal bird species found in forests and woodlands across the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It is a brownish-grey color with intricate patterns of darker brown and white on its feathers, helping it blend into its surroundings.

Brown-Headed Barbet

The Brown-Headed Barbet is a small, brightly colored bird species found in forests and woodlands across the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It has a distinctively large head with a brownish-red cap and a bright green body, which helps it blend into its forested habitat.

White-Bellied Drongo
